
Charles D. Mills, Sr. is a respected leader in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He is a retired U.S. Army Colonel with over 35+ years of honorable service and is a multidisciplinary leader, public speaker, community activist, and interventionist/mentor. A native of North Charleston, South Carolina, Charles matriculated to Claflin University, located in Orangeburg, SC, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration. While at Claflin University, he joined the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. through the Delta Alpha Chapter on November 13, 1988.
Education, knowledge, and life-long learning are also key components to how Charles operates. He’s currently earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Business Administration at Claflin University, a Master of Public Administration (MPA) at Troy University, a Master of Military Arts & Science at the School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS), and a Master of Science (MS) in Strategic Studies at The U.S. Army War College. Additionally, Charles has also received education at Harvard’s Extension School in Design Thinking Methodologies.
In the community, Charles is a resident of North Charleston, South Carolina, and a member of The Church House of Ministries Worldwide, Ladson located in Ladson, SC. He is an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and The Owls’ Whist Club here in Charleston, SC. The Owls’ Whist Club of Charleston, South Carolina, exists as the oldest Bid Whist Club in America. Among organizations of its kind, it is unique and occupies a special place in the history of the African American community of Charleston.
Within Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, he has served as both a college vice president and alumni chapter president, and currently serves as the Dean of Officer Development and Leadership in the Southern Region's Training and Development Academy, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. In serving in this capacity, Charles is in a senior leadership role responsible for shaping and implementing comprehensive officer development programs to enhance the skills, knowledge, and leadership abilities of ~8,000 fraternity officers and members within the Southern Region of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity – a crucial role of fostering a culture of excellence, growth, and innovation among Alpha Phi Alpha's future leaders.
